I'm currently writing this in the Dallas airport as I await to embark on yet another Antarctic deployment for five more months. These photos were taken about a month ago whilst visiting friends in Portland and Seattle and looking upon these brings me such joy. Not only because it was a wonderful trip with wonderful people, but because I can still feel the heat of that early evening, still remember the breeze through this beautifully light dress, still reflect on a feeling of pure satisfaction that everything, even if for a few minutes, was quite right. I'm about to leave for a freezing desert, and it's nice especially to have these moments to warm me during the cold months ahead (yes this is sappier than my usual but I'm feeling contemplative today, so sue me!).
I warned you I wasn't going to be able to put as much effort into my London Fashion Week fantasies as I'm currently in panic mode making sure I have everything together before I leave for another round of Antarctic work. But, because I knew I was only going to have one shot, I thought I'd make it as classically British as possible, and what better inspiration is there than Beatle boots and mod, striped blazers? Though an orange striped blazer with big gold metal buttons and a split tail hem isn't my normal go-to outfit, I must say this is one of my favorite vintage pieces I own. The 1940's are such a good fit for my body type (hello broad shoulders!) that anytime I find something from that decade, I scoop it up with gusto. Gusto!
Because the blazer is such a statement piece, I wanted to keep the rest of the outfit minimal to let the jacket really sing. So, a light white sweater, some white jeans and some killer white patent ankle boots are clearly the way to go. And can we talk about these boots? I bought them right before I left for Antarctica last season and never had the opportunity to trot them out, which is a darn shame. So, in the name of all things white and patent, I've been wearing them constantly to make up for lost time.
Vive La London!
One day left! Are you as sad as I am that it's almost over? It's been really fun looking at my wardrobe with a fresh eye and coming up with new remixes for the pieces in my wardrobe. I don't often dress for attention but the idea of creating outfits fit for the likes of Tamu, Phil, Candice or Garance was a special challenge that I was more than willing to rise and meet. All this being said, the outfit for day six came originally in this form but was ruined my an onslaught of rain so I thought I'd give this round a more casual spin with just a big cream sweater in lieu of a blazer (which I wore one yesterday so clearly I couldn't wear one today). Add my favorite ankle boots, a matching tooled leather envelope clutch with the best graphics ever, and I was done!
